Tutorial #7: Basic Commands

This tutorial goes over some of the basic voice commands in Dragon to get you started using the software. For more in-depth information on voice commands, please refer to the next tutorial on the Dragon Sidebar.

Basic Formatting Commands

Dragon Veterinary is designed to perform a host of different actions using voice commands alone. This includes a wide range of formatting applications in addition to opening applications, switching between applications, and even controlling your mouse.

The following list gives you a brief snapshot of some of the most commonly used formatting commands to get you started using the software. For a more comprehensive list of voice commands, please refer to the Dragon Sidebar tutorial.

<punctuation> - Used to punctuate your sentences.
          "Period", "Comma", "Open Quote", etc.  

New Paragraph - Used to move the cursor down two lines and create a new paragraph. 

New Line - Used to move the cursor down one line and create a new line. 

Scratch That - Used to undo any accidental corrections or dictations. 

Undo That - Used to undo any actions performed in windows. 

Switch to <xyz> - Used to switch to any opened windows.
          "Switch to Skype", "Switch to Microsoft Excel", "Switch to Adobe Reader", etc. 

Go To Sleep - Used to put the mic to sleep. 

Wake Up - Used to wake the mic up from sleep. 

Select <xyz> - Used to select text in a word document.
          "Select dog", "Select physical exam", "Select the sky was blue", etc. 

Insert Before <xyz> - Used to move the cursor before the chosen word.
          "Insert before Jay", "Insert before medical", "Insert before hand", etc. 

Insert After <xyz> - Used to move the cursor after the chosen word.
          "Insert after sun", "Insert after blue", "Insert after chart", etc. 

Delete That - Used to delete a selection. 

Bold That - Used to bold a selection. 

Underline That - Used to underline a selection. 

Copy That - Used to copy a selection. 

Paste That - Used to paste text that was previously copied. 

Italicize That - Used to italicize a selection. 

Cut That - Used to cut a selection from the document and add it to the clipboard. 

Correct <xyz> - Used to bring up the correction menu for the chosen word.
          "Correct monitor", "Correct clouds", "Correct red", etc. 

Cap That - Used to capitalize the first letter of the selected text. 

All Caps That - Used to capitalize each letter of the selected text. 

All Caps On - Used to turn on the caps lock. 

All Caps Off – Used to turn off the caps lock. 

Move to Start of Document - Used to move the cursor to the start of the document. 

Move to Bottom - Used to move the cursor to the bottom of the document. 

Move to End Of Line - Used to move the cursor to the end of the current line in the document. 

Move to Start Of Line - Used to move the cursor to the start of the current line in the document. 

Numeral <xyz> - Used to write a numeral.
          "Numeral nine", "Numeral twenty-three", "Numeral eighty-seven", etc. 

Play That - Used to play back your dictation using your own recorded voice. 

Read That - Used to read the selected text in a computerized voice. 

Next Field - Used to navigate to the next variable field. 

Previous Field - Used to navigate to the previous variable field. 

Press <keyboard key> - Used to simulate a keystroke on your keyboard.
          "Press enter", "Press escape", Press tab", etc. 

Make That a Shortcut – Used to make selected text into a template/command. 

Add New Command - Used to quickly open the new command window. 

Transfer Text - Used to transfer all text currently written in the Dictation Box.
